Have you been lately taking too much of western breakfast with butter/cheese or lip smacking Parathas/ Puris..Yes, I do agree that they make a sumptuous and a delicious breakfast! It is highly possible that the delicious taste lingers on to your taste buds making you crave for more of these..But, oops, did you remember to check yourself in the mirror? Having these on a daily basis will definitely add more calories and is going to create problems to your figure line! So, I suggest that you may want to try nutritious breakfasts like Idly / Kanchipuram Idly or dosa with less oil!
Idly is rich in protein content. 2 big idlis counts to 132 calories and 2 grams of fat. Brisk walking at home for 30 minutes will help! As Idli is made from combination of rice and urad dhal which is fermented and then steamed, it is rated to be one of the top foods for healthy eating! Idly has many variants such as Plain Idly, Kanchipuram Idly, rava idly. Chutney is an essential part of this!
Preparation method - Batter for Idly: (60 Normal sized Idlies)
1. Take 4 cups(800 grams) of rice and add sufficient amount of water to this so that is soaked well for 3-4 hours
2. Take 200 grams of urud dhal and soak this in sufficient amount of water
3. After 3-4 hours, grind urud dhal first. Then after grinding the rice, add grinded urud dhal to this.
4. Add sufficient amount of salt (3-4 level table spoons of salt) to this batter
5. Keep this in room temperature for a minimum of 3 hours and maximum of 6 hours
6. Post this, refrigerate it. Your breakfast / dinner for a week is ready!
How to make Idly:
Ensure you get required vessel for this.
Apply ghee to the vessel and grease this. Once this is steamed, you can serve this with Idly Powder, Chutney (Click on follow to watch out for the recipe for different kinds of chutney in the upcoming blog)
Batter for Kancheepuram Idly (25 idlies):
Follow the same method mentioned above in proportions of rice(2 cups - 400 grams) and Urud dhal (1 cup - 200 grams)
Batter for Dosa (35 dosas):
Follow the same method as mentioned above in proportions of rice(5 cups - 1000 grams) and urud dhal (1 cup - 200 grams)
Preparation method for Dosa:
1. Instead of making plain dosa, you can add carrot/onion/coriander etc to the batter. To make a crispier dosa, use a non-stick dosa pan. In non-stick, you can add less oil and helps you to keep a tab on the calorie count!
2. Serve this with any chutney of your choice or molaga thoku (Click on follow to watch out for this recipe in the upcoming blog)
